“I truly can’t imagine a better venue that Greg and Renee’s home for such a monumental occasion. The yard in which we stand is a yard that Greg renovated in under 40 days, just so he could marry Renee.”
When we first started talking to Renee about her wedding video, she had more questions about her wedding than actual plans. COVID had made the wedding they originally planned impossible. They were juggling a bunch of different options, but knew they wanted a video.
We had a phone call in July, and when she shared with me the plans they had decided upon, and how they got there, I was in tears. They had originally planned on a venue in downtown Pittsburgh, then debated on several family member’s homes in the area, but nothing seemed to work out.
“We were 40 days out and Greg said let’s throw in the towel and have it here. Our yard was incredibly junky. He got laid off during COVID so I’m the only one working and all house projects got put on hold. I wasn’t thrilled with the idea (originally).
Then 4th of July weekend Greg told me he’d build me a wedding venue of my dreams if that means he got to marry me that day. If I wanted to feel like we were getting married in the woods, he’d put big pine trees down the middle of the yard and rip them up the following week. About an hour later he told me he’s not trying to sell me on the idea but the more he thinks about it, the more he likes the backyard wedding idea because in 15 to 20 years from now he can tell our kids how when the world fell apart around us, he build me a wedding venue in our backyard so he could marry me that day – and show them the pictures instead of just another box venue wedding.”
The world fell apart….but Greg and Renee did not. They got to work. Greg transformed that yard into the perfect place to host their families, and Renee got to work calling rental companies to fill in the details.
And by “host their families” I mean exactly that. All of the guests (and even the officiant) were immediate family members. They took incredible care in the weeks leading up to the wedding so that Renee’s 98 year old grandma could be in attendance.
Every detail of the wedding had meaning to this couple, including Renee’s gift to Greg.
Greg loves the outdoors and Renee knew the most meaningful gift would be one they could share together in the future. She started a savings account for their very own future cabin and hired an illustrator to create a picture of the couple, their dog (an engagement gift that Greg bought for Renee) in front of their future cabin, the “Haas Hideaway”.
